BUCS (British Universities & College Sport) is an annual national competition against the other universities in the UK in each sport. CUSWPC sends both Swimmers and Water Polo players to represent Cambridge University.
Swimming
The BUCS Competition for Swimming (Short Course) occurs halfway through Michaelmas Term in November, and is open to both the Blues and the Seconds swimmers. The competition lasts 3 days, and takes place in Sheffield at Ponds Forge. Most of the swimmers who remain active throughout the year will have gone to BUCS, and it provides a good experience for swimmers who may not have taken part in many competitions before. Throughout the 3 days a wide variety of socials are hosted, and occasionally some of the swimmers enjoy exploring Sheffield.

There is also another BUCS Swimming competition in Lent Term which is hosted in a Long Course pool (50m) however far fewer swimmers take part in this, and it’s typically only reserved for the higher level Blues Swimmers, as anyways Varsity is not in a long time after this.
The form to sign up to this competition will be given shortly after Swimming trials in October 2026.
Water Polo
For Water Polo there is the BUCS League and the BUCS Open National Trophy. These competitions are instead held throughout the year and are either a knockout competition (for BUCS Open National Trophy) or instead are against other universities, being held either in Cambridge or at the other university.
The Women’s Waterpolo Team currently compete in the Premier Division of the National BUCS Competitions, while the Men’s Waterpolo Team compete at the Midlands regional level.
