BUCS

This year the short-course BUCS swimming championships were held in Sheffield on the 14-16th November. Our teams have geared with lots of hours in the pool, and live results were available on our Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/cuswpc/?hl=en). Stay tuned for the next update to hear more about how we got on!

Pre-season

CUSWPC Swimming has made a fantastic start to the year, kicking things off with a pre-season camp held in Cambridge a week before most students returned. It was the perfect opportunity to shake off the summer rust, rebuild our fitness, and reconnect as a team. Two two-hour sessions a day may have been a shock to the system after the holidays, but it was brilliant to dive back into training and catch up with familiar faces. We were also joined by three enthusiastic freshers who were eager to get involved and make their mark on the squad.

Taking over as Captains this year, Amelia and I have been keen to keep that early momentum going. We have expanded our pool time by adding a much-needed Wednesday afternoon distance session, and worked to better integrate the Blues and Seconds squads, fostering team cohesion and improving turnout across the board.

The Sports Fair brought even more excitement, with over 80 prospective swimmers signing up for trials. As I write this from the library on a sunny Saturday in Cambridge, Friday’s trials are behind us and Sunday’s await. Already, it is clear that this year’s squad is one of the strongest I have seen at CUSWPC, particularly on the women’s side. Things are looking very promising as we look ahead to Varsity.

This Michaelmas promises a packed and competitive schedule. We begin with a BUSL match against Kent in early November before heading to Ponds Forge in Sheffield for the BUCS Short Course Championships. Several of our swimmers have also earned places in the Performance 1 Squad with City of Cambridge, where they will compete in the Arena League.

Of course, CUSWPC is not just about hard work in the pool. Thanks to our brilliant social secs, we have an exciting line-up of events this term, including our classic highlights, the Welcome Event and Tadmas, ensuring that the friendships forged in training continue well beyond the lanes.
