Hi everyone,

A very warm welcome back to the old CUSWPC faces, and a hello to the new ones that have joined us this year.

The year kicked off with a very promising intake of new swimming and water polo freshers. They have carried this optimism through Michaelmas term delivering outstanding performances in various competitions. Swimmers excelled in events like BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport), the British University Swimming League, and numerous other contests, with two freshers even breaking long-standing club records. Similarly, water polo freshers contributed significantly by competing in BUCS league matches, securing several victories for their teams.

The whole club is looking forward to the upcoming home varsity matches occurring on the first 2 weekends of March, and are working hard to secure a positive result (GDBO!). On top of this, open water swimming’s varsity is the channel relay. This not only serves as an exceptional experience for participants but also supports fundraising efforts for meaningful charitable causes.

Personally, CUSWPC has been an integral part of my University experience providing me with both athletic opportunities and social community. I am so grateful to the people on previous committees that have facilitated the continued success of the club, and on behalf of all members, I thank the current committee for your hard work, because we simply wouldn’t exist without everything you do. This year I am personally very proud of the work that myself and Sam English (Alumni Officer), in partnership with James Ganendra (Senior Alumni President), have done in securing the alumni network to support the club and continue to social community that the club provides for members post-graduation.

Menna Walmsley, Junior President 2024-2025.
