2014 saw the first annual Varsity Henley Swim. The Henley Classic is a 2.1km endurance event held at the Henley Royal Regatta course, very early on the Sunday morning before the Wednesday start of the Royal Regatta. The event is a celebration of mid-summer. 4 men and 4 women from each of Oxford and Cambridge make up two teams that battle it out over the course, aiming to have the lowest cumulative time and be crowned overall winner. In 2017, Cambridge took victories across the board for the first time since the inaugural event started.
The 2023 Henley Classic Varsity Swim is still TBC, and if you have any questions then please contact the Open Water Captain Evie Anema (cambridgeuniversityopenwater@gmail.com).
Trials for the team will take place in Lent term to select a team of 4 men and 4 women, and in the summer regular open water training sessions will be held in Cambridge, mainly in the Jesus Green Lido and Milton Country Park. While primarily designed to help swimmers prepare for the Varsity Open Water races, they will be held on an informal basis and open to anyone interested in trying open water!
